Is Big Ambitions Multiplayer? The Honest Answer

Big Ambitions is single-player. Steam’s own feature list for the game shows Single-player, Steam Achievements, Steam Workshop, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing — no co-op, no online multiplayer, no LAN. The 1.0 full release on 28 August 2026 did not change this, and Hovgaard has not announced multiplayer as a future feature.

That is the whole answer. The rest of this page exists because the question keeps getting asked, and because the search results around it are misleading.

Why the Question Comes Up So Often

Three reasons, all understandable:

  1. The genre invites it. Business sims where friends compete for the same market are a natural fantasy, and Big Ambitions has rivals, market share and neighborhood territory — everything except other humans.
  2. An unofficial multiplayer mod exists and ranks well in search. It is community-made, not from Hovgaard, and it is not covered by patch notes or support.
  3. “Coop” searches spike after every update, including 1.0, because people reasonably assume a full release might be when it lands. It was not.

About the Multiplayer Mod

An unofficial mod is a mod: it can break with any patch, it is maintained by whoever made it, and the developer has no obligation to keep it working. Big Ambitions does have proper Steam Workshop support since EA 0.11 in June 2026, which is the supported channel for community content — see mods and workshop.

If you go that route, understand the trade: you are playing a modified build, and neither Hovgaard nor this site can tell you what will happen to a save that was created under it.

What You Get Instead of Multiplayer

The competitive layer in Big Ambitions is the rival system, and it is more substantial than most people expect:

  • A Rivals app listing 20 business and real estate owners in New York, including you, with detail on what each of them runs
  • Four special rivals who own neighborhoods and contact you when you open on their turf — Ingrid Schneider in the Garment District, Jessica Johnson in Hell’s Kitchen, Thierry Laurent Moreau in Murray Hill and Huang Guo in Midtown
  • Rivalries that produce price attacks, competing openings and employee poaching, all of which you can counter
  • An achievement chain — Arch-nemesis — for defeating one, two and all four special rivals

That last one confirms rivals can be permanently beaten, and 1.0’s Hamptons houses belong to your special rivals “unless you’ve already driven them out of the city.” Full detail in rivals guide.

Family Sharing

One genuinely social feature does exist: Steam Family Sharing is supported, so a household can share the licence — one person plays at a time. That is not multiplayer, but it does mean two people in the same house need only one copy.
